This weekend, Downsview Park will come alive with drumming, dance, and celebration of Indigenous culture and queer identity as Toronto hosts its 4th annual 2-Spirit Powwow on Saturday, June 7th. Taking place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, this event honours the Two-Spirit peoples, which are a group of indigenous individuals who possess both feminine and masculine spirits.
The roll out of the Canada Dental Care Plan is now complete and all age groups can now apply. This program, the biggest change to our public health care system in a generation, will allow up to 9 million Canadians to apply. That is one quarter of all Canadians. Let me introduce you to Firgrove Public School, one of the first model schools under the Model Schools for Inner Cities initiative. This program was created to support students and families in underserved communities. Many in our neighbourhood face challenges such as poverty, lack of access to resources, and systemic inequities. The model school aims to promote equity in education by removing barriers and creating meaningful opportunities for students. Firgrove is where this important work began. It has always been my dream to be an advocate, not just for my school but for the entire community.
